You Should Always Know

You should always know what your credit looks like at transunion, Equifax and Experian. This is due to the fact that certain creditors may only report to one or two of the bureaus. When you get a copy of your credit report, make sure you get a tri-merge report that lists all three companies scores and information. From there you can dispute errors directly to the bureau that is reporting the incorrect information.

If You Have Bad Credit

If you have bad credit and are trying to remove negative items from your credit report you will first need to get copies of your credit report from the three reporting bureaus. These bureaus are transunion, Equifax, and Experian. You can buy your credit report directly online from all three credit reporting agencies. After receiving the credit reports you will need to examine each credit report and determine what negative items need to be removed from each credit bureaus credit report. The next step is actually disputing the negative information on your credit report and increasing your credit score. The easiest way to file a credit dispute is online, all credit bureaus have a dispute section on their web sites that is very user friendly and is much faster then writing a letter. Normally within 45 days you will receive either an email conformation or written letter in the mail telling you what if any negative accounts have been removed or verified as accurate.

There Are Three Different Credit

There are three different credit report bureaus. They are transunion, Equifax and Experian. Each bureau will report a score based and many variables. If you have a limited credit history you may not have three scores, you may only have one or two.

Each credit repository, Equifax, Experian and transunion, all update their credit scoring models every now and then. Just like with a computer and it’s operating system such as windows 95, windows 2000, windows xp, etc the credit bureaus update their technology and their scoring models as well. Not all lenders use the same models for each different credit bureau. Some lenders use older models because they are usually cheaper while others use the most updated model. This is one reason why there are sometimes discrepancies or variances from lender to lender on actual credit scores.

The Three Major Credit Bureaus

The three major credit bureaus Experian, Equifax, and Transunion all use their own unique scoring models. Most lenders will look at all three of your credit bureau reports and scores, commonly referred to as a tri-merge report. The difference between the three credit bureau scores can be significant due to the different scoring models that each bureau uses.

The First Thing You

The first thing you should do when trying to improve your credit score is to obtain a current credit report from all three credit bureaus (Equifax, Transunion, and Experian). This will let you know exactly what is hurting your score the most, and give you a chance to identify anything that is being reported inaccurately. Dispute any errors immediately with each bureau to begin getting your credit back on track.

Lenders Use A Trimerge Credit

Lenders use a trimerge credit report to assist in evaluating your credit worthiness. A fico score is just one of three scores available from a tri merge report. The other two score are usually from Experian and Transunion. Most mortgage lenders will take the middle score of the three for loan qualifying.

Sometimes Credit Bureaus Can

Sometimes credit bureaus can report inaccurate information about you. It is important to resolve these issues since they may hurt you in the loan process. You should talk with your broker about any inaccurate information or contact the three major credit bureaus. Equifax credit bureau P.O. If you suspect errors, immediately contact the three credit reporting agencies. If you believe there is wrong information, you should be prepared to provide documentation to the agencies so that they can clear it up.

There Have Been Five Scoring

There have been five scoring models (mathematical equations) for determining your credit score. Beginning in 2006 the three major repositories are supposed to be using the same one. This should help to bring the three scores more closely in line. In the past you could often see a 100 point or more difference from one bureau to the next. For example, Transunion may show 550 and Experian 650.

You Should Obtain A

You should obtain a free copy of your credit report from each of the three main credit repositories (, Equifax, and Experian). Do this several months before applying for a loan, if you can. That way you will have enough time to fix an errors on your report and have it re-scored before your mortgage professional pulls your credit report again.
